TroTro Diaries and Impact Sync have launched an innovative road safety project, "Kasa for Safety,". The initiative is aimed at reducing reckless driving and promoting safe commuting by encouraging passengers to speak up when a driver is driving recklessly. The project was inaugurated on Saturday, July 13th 2024, at the Odawna Station in Circle, drawing considerable attention and participation from both volunteers and drivers.
The launch event saw the enthusiastic involvement of 30 volunteers dedicated to enhancing road safety. These volunteers were actively engaged in pasting informative stickers inside TroTros (mini buses) that urged passengers to speak up politely when they noticed reckless driving. Each TroTro received two stickers, and a total of 100 TroTros were outfitted with these important safety messages.
Media partner, JoyPrime, was present to cover the event, ensuring the message reached a wider audience, the event was also shown on the Trotro Diaries TV show. Mr. Nimako a Road Safety expert was a key speaker at the event, providing valuable education on road safety tips to both volunteers and drivers. His engaging session highlighted crucial practices to maintain safety on the roads, emphasizing the importance of collective responsibility.
In a bid to incentivise participation, drivers who answered road safety questions correctly were rewarded with car batteries and fuel vouchers, fostering a spirit of engagement and learning. This interactive approach not only educated but also motivated drivers to adhere to safer driving practices.
The event concluded on a high note with a vibrant dance session that brought together volunteers and drivers, celebrating the successful launch and the collaborative effort to improve road safety. The lively atmosphere underscored the community spirit and the shared commitment to making the roads safer for everyone.
The "Kasa for Safety" project by TroTro Diaries and Impact Sync is a significant step forward in addressing road safety concerns in Ghana. By empowering passengers to voice their concerns and educating drivers
on safe practices, this initiative promises to create a safer commuting environment for all.
