The Star Oil Female Driver Program is a program designed to break down gender barriers in the typically male-dominated transportation industry. Following previous successful campaign s, “Women Moving the City” and “Women Moving Trucks” run by Scania Ghana .
The StarOil female driver program has had a huge impact by creating work possibilities for women in an industry where they are generally underrepresented.
Star Oil’s program, established in 2023, aimed at empowering women by providing professional
training and job prospects as commercial drivers. This is consistent with the overall goals of promoting gender equality and encouraging diversity in all facets of its operations.
The program provides a comprehensive training package to equip women with skills required to handle heavy-duty vehicles. Participants are trained in road safety, vehicle maintenance, defensive driving, and fuel management. By the end of the course, trainees are not only certified commercial drivers, but also knowledgeable about the logistics and technical aspects of operating large fuel
tankers.
The program has helped and continues to help challenge the societal norms and stereotypes that limit women’s participation in fields like transportation. As more women become professional
drivers, it sends a strong statement about gender diversity and workplace empowerment.
As stated by the CEO of Star Oil, Mr. Philip Tieku, the Female Driver Program stands as a beacon of progress, showcasing how industries can lead efforts toward gender balance while enhancing quality of work output, and creating meaningful employment opportunities for women
